“Kaliya” by Master Carver Tegal. In ancient times, a fierce dragon with seven heads ruled the waters of the world. As humans threw their trash and toxic chemicals in rivers and seas, Kaliya become very angry, destroying any ship or vessel that entered his territory. There are few legends of ship battles with Kaliya because few survived his attacks. In a further act of revenge, Kaliya used its venom to poison the rivers so humans could not survive. Villagers called upon Krishna, the protector of the universe, to help them find a solution. Krishna overpowered Kaliya’s immediate attack using the weight of the universe, and a dance that slowed time. Before dying, Kaliya agreed he would stop his reign of terror if humans agreed to protect his waters. Krishna informed the villagers they must protect their environment, or they would find greater problems than Kaliya. Today, five trillion pounds of plastic floats in our seas, 95% coming from just 10 major rivers. Many fear if our reckless pollution continues, that Kaliya will return to defend the world’s waters once again. Ignite your spirit, protect our oceans, with the power of Kaliya
